Practical Report Call for papers/presentations: International Conference on “The Obama Presidency: One Year On” 4-5 February 2010 Ubon Ratchathani University

The Faculty of Political Science at Ubon Ratchathani University in collaboration with the American Studies Program at the Institute of Security and International Studies, Faculty of Political Science, Chulalongkorn University, will be holding an international conference on 4-5 February 2010 on “The Obama Presidency: One Year On.”

Sessions will include a general review of the Obama Presidency in political, economic and security aspects, especially its impact on Southeast Asia. The conference will also focus on the increasingly significant topic of the Greater Mekong Subregion (GMS), where the interests of leading countries including the U.S., China and Japan are intertwined. The recent U.S. announcement of a partnership with the GMS countries is catching analysts’ attention, especially as the move could be seen as a challenge to China’s interests. During a recent summit, Japan also upped its assistance to the GMS.

The American Studies Program would like to extend our invitation to you and your colleagues to express your views on various issues related to the Obama Administration as well as the roles of the leading countries in the GMS. The organizers are now calling for papers which observe “CHANGE” in American politics and society as well as in global politics. Particularly, we would like to encourage papers containing a regional focus on the roles played by the U.S. and China. Please also note that interested students from your institutes are welcome to participate on the panels.

The deadline for proposal submission is December 18, 2009 although earlier submissions would also be welcome.
